Frequently asked questions
When is the Westernstadl open?
Every day from 08:30 bis 17:00, with no closing day. The kitchen cooks from 09:30 bis 17:00.
Is the hut open in summer?
No, we only open in winter. The season runs from Nov 26, 2026 to Apr 4, 2027.
How do I get to the Westernstadl?
Take the Bernkogel gondola up from Saalbach; from the top station it is ca. 400 m to the hut. If you come by car, you park down in the village.
Can I book a table?
For a table, a quick call to +43 664 3039969 is all it takes. For groups, celebrations and job applications, use the form.
Can I ski back down to the valley?
Yes, on the Bernkogelabfahrt, Piste 46. It runs ca. 1,2 km down to Saalbach Zentrum. It is not floodlit and closes at 17:00, like every piste in the area.
How do I get down in the evening if I would rather not ski?
That works mit Skidoo oder Pistenwalze, nach Absprache. Let us know in good time and we will arrange it.
Are dogs allowed?
Yes, dogs are welcome.
Can I pay by card?
Yes, card payment works. There is Wi-Fi as well.
Where does the meat come from?
Most of it comes from our own farm, the Buchauhof in St. Johann im Pongau.
